Major - "Major Burns"
Registered Standardbred Gelding
4 yrs old, 16.2hh
Available through our Standardbred Rehoming Program Adoption Fee: $6,000
Say hello to mister tall, dark, and handsome! Did I mention TALL?
"Major Burns" is directly off the track after his career in harness racing. He retired healthy and sound, just ready for a different career.
He is a BIG boy at 16.2hh! He is super friendly, great with other horses, and has been a perfect gentleman!
This guy is super cool under saddle. He is a smooth mover and has started learning some fun things since his last riding video was taken. He now knows to soften to the pressure of the bit and ride with a relaxed headset, and has been doing great learning to move off of leg for shoulder and hindquarter yields and side-passing.
This guy absolutely loves trail, but he could definitely go around in a ranch riding class or just about anything you want! Western or English, he's up for it all!
On trail, this guy is confident! He will lead the way or follow behind another horse no problem. He has ridden through the woods or on the road and has a very adjustable walk to go slow with some horses or keep up with speedier ones!
Lucky 7 Horse Rescue offers a Standardbred Rehoming Program for owners to safely rehome their retiring racehorses in a way that acknowledges the value of their horses. Off-the-track Standardbreds come with a lot of excellent handling and care, and are extreme athletes. When they are working, they are all “business mode”. When their harness is off, however, they show their goofy personalities! Every Standardbred has their unique set of goofy quirks - some like to twirl their heads, others like to stick their tongues out, and even more like to wiggle their lips! Like most Standardbreds, Major Burns comes with these wonderful qualities:
✅Stands tied
✅Cross-ties
✅Trailers like a champ
✅Good for farrier
✅Stands for baths
✅UTD on everything
Standardbreds offered through our Standardbred Rehoming Program are NOT rescues. They have been loved and cared for their entire lives, valued as race horses. The Standardbred Rehoming Program exists to give horse owners the option to safely rehome their off-the-track Standardbreds in a way that acknowledges the value of their horses. Many of these horses would be sold for double or triple the price to go work on rural farms, as they are valued by those communities as working animals and transportation.
When adopting a horse in our Standardbred Rehoming Program, half of the fee goes to the previous owner of the horse, and half goes directly into getting two or three Standardbreds away from the hard work of working on rural farms.
