Jeano has a very special story for such a young mare. She came from a kill pen in Michigan as a young, pregnant, emaciated mare. Two other mares came with her. One was so emaciated that she couldn’t sustain a pregnancy. Jeano has a beautiful filly who is one hot tamale. We call her Jellybean because Jeano is registered as Jeano Bamm Beano with the Jockey Club.

After having her baby, Jeano became one of our baby milk stations. Her mothering instincts weren’t all that good but she let any foal nurse off of her. As a maiden mare, she didn’t know how to do the whole mothering thing, but she was happy to feed whoever wanted some milk.

She is a super sweet mare that has made leaps and bounds in her time at the rescue and with trainers and wonderful leasees. The other mares she came in with were broke, but Jeano didn’t have many great experiences with people. Jeano was first handled by a 4-H youth in the 4-H Training Project. She then went into the 2024 Battle of the Best Training Competition with trainer Danielle Laszcwski. Two months of training wasn't enough for her, but she made extraordinary progress with her trainer. Further time with Jeano has led us to make the decision to offer her as a companion eligible for free lease. She is a friendly mare, an easy keeper, great with a herd of mares or a mixed herd, and loves pampering. A riding career is not out of the question for Jeano, but she may simply enjoy life as a pasture pet (or a non-riding career like one as a liberty horse). She does have some kind of past trauma that makes transitioning her into riding harder than normal. Being a Thoroughbred with an unknown history, there could also be a physical factor to why riding is such a challenge for her, though nothing has been discovered yet.
